## Biography

C.M. Pennington-Richards (1911–2005) was a British cinematographer and film director. He began his career producing religious films and entered the mainstream industry as a cinematographer with *Border Line* (1938).

During the Second World War he worked with the Crown Film Unit and was cinematographer on Humphrey Jennings's *Fires Were Started* (1943). Post-war credits as cinematographer included *Theirs Is the Glory* (1946), *The Wooden Horse* (1950) and *Scrooge* (1951).

He made his directorial debut with *The Oracle* (1953) and directed further features including *Double Bunk* (1961), *Ladies Who Do* (1963) and *Sky Pirates* (1977). He also directed episodes of early British television series.
