## Biography

Camille Yarbrough is an American actress, musician, poet and activist. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she began her career as a dancer with the Katherine Dunham Dance Company in the 1950s and later performed on Broadway in productions including *Kwamina* (1961).

Yarbrough appeared as Dina Greene in the film *Shaft* (1971). She also had roles in television series such as *Search for Tomorrow*. She is known for her 1975 album *The Iron Pot Cooker* and the song "Take Yo' Praise", later sampled by Fatboy Slim in "Praise You" (1998). Her work has emphasised African American cultural heritage through performance, writing and education.
