## Biography

Carl Lumbly is an American actor. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he studied at Macalester College and began his career as a journalist before moving into theatre, including productions with Danny Glover.

His first major television role was as Detective Marcus Petrie on the CBS series *Cagney & Lacey* (1982–1988). He later played CIA agent Marcus Dixon on the ABC series *Alias* (2001–2006) and starred as Dr Miles Hawkins in the Fox series *M.A.N.T.I.S.* (1994–1995).

Lumbly has voiced J'onn J'onzz / Martian Manhunter in DC animated series and appeared as Isaiah Bradley in the Marvel series *The Falcon and the Winter Soldier* (2021) and film *Captain America: Brave New World* (2025). He was married to actress Vonetta McGee from 1987 until her death in 2010.
