## Biography

Carl Reiner (20 March 1922 – 29 June 2020) was an American actor, comedian, director, screenwriter and author. He began his career in the 1950s as a performer and writer on Sid Caesar's variety programmes *Your Show of Shows* and *Caesar's Hour*, working alongside Mel Brooks, Neil Simon and Woody Allen.

Reiner created, produced and wrote for the sitcom *The Dick Van Dyke Show* (1961–1966), in which he also appeared. He formed a comedy partnership with Mel Brooks for the *2000 Year Old Man* albums and directed films including *Oh, God!* (1977) and several Steve Martin comedies such as *The Jerk* (1979). He played Saul Bloom in *Ocean's Eleven* (2001), *Ocean's Twelve* (2004) and *Ocean's Thirteen* (2007), and voiced characters in animated films including *Toy Story 4* (2019). Reiner received 12 Primetime Emmy Awards and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
