Carole Eastman was an American screenwriter who also worked as an actress early in her career. She wrote under the pseudonyms Adrien Joyce and A.L. Appling. Her most prominent credit is the screenplay and story for *Five Easy Pieces* (1970), for which she shared an Academy Award nomination with director Bob Rafelson.

Eastman was born in Glendale, California, in 1934 and grew up in Hollywood. Her father worked as a grip at Warner Bros. and her mother was a secretary to Bing Crosby. She began as a ballet dancer and model before studying acting with Jeff Corey, where she became friends with Jack Nicholson. Her brother, Charles K. Eastman, was also a screenwriter.

Her other screenwriting credits include *The Shooting* (1966), *Model Shop* (1969), *Puzzle of a Downfall Child* (1970), *The Fortune* (1975) and *Man Trouble* (1992). She died in Los Angeles in 2004 after a long illness.
