## Biography

Caroline Kava is an American actress, director and playwright. Born on 25 September 1949 in Chicago, Illinois, she made her Broadway debut in 1973 in *The Merchant of Venice* and later appeared Off-Broadway in her own play *The Early Girl* (1986). She holds a B.A. from the State University of New York Empire State College.

Her film roles include Stefka in *Heaven's Gate* (1980), Connie White in *Year of the Dragon* (1985), Elizabeth Grant in *Little Nikita* (1988) and Mrs. Kovic in *Born on the Fourth of July* (1989). She has also appeared in *Four Days in September* (1997) and *Snow Falling on Cedars* (1999), and in television series including *Star Trek: The Next Generation* (as Dr. Toby Russell), *Quantum Leap*, *The X-Files* and multiple episodes of *Law & Order*.

Kava has directed and written short films, among them *Polio Water* (1995), which won the Grand Prize at the Independent Film Channel, and *Number One* (1998).
