## Biography

Casey Robinson (1903–1979) was an American screenwriter, film director and producer. Born in Logan, Utah, he graduated from Cornell University, briefly taught English and worked as a journalist before entering Hollywood in 1927 as a writer of titles for silent films.

Robinson wrote the screenplay for *Captain Blood* (1935) and contributed to several Bette Davis vehicles at Warner Bros., including *Dark Victory* (1939), *The Old Maid* (1939), *All This, and Heaven Too* (1940) and *Now, Voyager* (1942). His other credits include *Passage to Marseille* (1944), *The Snows of Kilimanjaro* (1952), *The Egyptian* (1954) and *While the City Sleeps* (1956). He was a write-in nominee for the Academy Award for Best Screenplay for *Captain Blood* and provided uncredited rewrites on *Casablanca*.

He later worked as a writer-producer at MGM and 20th Century Fox, and wrote teleplays for series including *Alfred Hitchcock Presents*. Robinson retired in the early 1960s and moved to Australia.
