Johnson's early screen work included a supporting role in the 2016 film *A Killer Walks Amongst Us*. He appeared in a recurring capacity as Billy Offal in the Netflix series *GLOW* (2017–2018) and as Gordy Mazzuchelli in the NBC series *Rise* (2018). He played Danny Stevens as a series regular in *For All Mankind* (2021–2023) on Apple TV+. In 2024 he was cast in the recurring role of Kit Russell in the Netflix series *Ransom Canyon* (2025) and was promoted to series regular ahead of the second season.
