## Biography

Cecil Beresford Ramage (17 January 1895 – 22 February 1988) was a Scottish actor, barrister and Liberal politician. Educated at the Edinburgh Academy and Pembroke College, Oxford, where he served as President of the Oxford Union, he was commissioned in the Royal Scots during the First World War, served in Gallipoli, Palestine and Egypt, and was awarded the Military Cross.

After the war he entered politics, sitting briefly as Member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne East from 1923 to 1924. He later became a professional actor, appearing on stage in the West End and with the Old Vic Company, and in a number of British films. His screen roles included Sir Mulberry Hawk in *The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby* (1947) and Prosecuting Counsel in *Blanche Fury* (1948); his final film appearance was as Crown Counsel in *Kind Hearts and Coronets* (1949). He was married to the actress Cathleen Nesbitt.
