Chantal Akerman (also credited as Chantal Anne Akerman) was a Belgian film director, screenwriter and artist. She was born in Brussels on 6 June 1950 and died in Paris on 5 October 2015.

Akerman is best known for *Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles* (1975), which she directed and wrote, and for which she provided an uncredited voice performance. Other notable works include *Je tu il elle* (1974), *News from Home* (1977), *The Meetings of Anna* (1978) and *The Captive* (2000), all of which she directed and wrote. She began her career with the short *Saute ma ville* (1968) after briefly attending film school in Brussels.
