Charles Henry Smith was a writer and actor. He worked on the adaptation for the Buster Keaton film *The General* (1926), in which he also appeared as Annabelle's father. He received adaptation credit on *Battling Butler* (1926) and wrote for earlier films including *The Silver Lining* (1921) and *Nobody* (1921).

Smith was born in Germany in 1866 and died in Hollywood, California, in 1942. He immigrated to the United States in 1869 and was naturalised in 1894.
