## Biography

Charles Rosher (also credited as Charles G. Rosher or Charles Roscher) was a British-American cinematographer. Born in London in 1885, he moved to the United States in 1909 after working as a newsreel cameraman. He became one of the first full-time cameramen in Hollywood and was a founding member and first vice-president of the American Society of Cinematographers.

Rosher shared the first Academy Award for Best Cinematography with Karl Struss for *Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans* (1927). He won a second Oscar for *The Yearling* (1946). He worked extensively with Mary Pickford from 1918 to 1927 and shot numerous films for MGM in the later part of his career, including *Annie Get Your Gun* (1950), *Show Boat* (1951) and *Kiss Me Kate* (1953). He died in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1974.
