## Biography

Charles Begore Smith (1920–1988) was an American character actor. Born in Flint, Michigan, he began appearing in films in the late 1930s and worked steadily through the 1960s.

He is best known for playing Rudy in *The Shop Around the Corner* (1940) and for portraying Dizzy Stevens, the sidekick to Henry Aldrich, in nine Paramount films between 1941 and 1944. Other credits include *The Major and the Minor* (1942) as Cadet Korner, *A Guy Named Joe* (1944) and an uncredited role in *In the Good Old Summertime* (1949). He was the only actor to appear in both an Andy Hardy film and all the Henry Aldrich features.

Smith later took recurring television roles and wrote episodes for series including *Target* (1958) and *Everglades!* (1961–1962). He died in Burbank, California.
