## Biography

Charles Waldron was an American stage and film actor, sometimes credited as Charles Waldron Sr., Chas. Waldron Sr., Charles D. Waldron or Mr. Waldron. He was born and grew up in Waterford, New York, the son of actors who initially discouraged him from following their profession. He worked briefly as a bank clerk before beginning his acting career.

Waldron made his Broadway debut in 1907 in *The Warrens of Virginia* and appeared in more than 40 Broadway productions over the following decades. He entered films in the silent era with *Big Noise Hank* (1911) and went on to appear in more than 60 films, often in supporting roles as judges, attorneys, priests and other authority figures.

His final film role was as General Sternwood in *The Big Sleep* (1946). He was married to Alice May King from 1907 until his death in Hollywood, California, on 4 March 1946.
