## Biography

Charles Yu is an American writer. Born in Los Angeles in 1976, he trained as a lawyer, graduating from the University of California, Berkeley and Columbia Law School, before turning to writing full time.

He wrote for the HBO series *Westworld* (2016) as a story editor and co-writer of one episode. His other television credits include *Legion* (2017), *Here and Now* (2018) and *Lodge 49* (2018). Yu is the author of the novels *How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe* (2010) and *Interior Chinatown* (2020), the latter of which won the National Book Award for Fiction. He created the 2024 Hulu adaptation of *Interior Chinatown*.

In 2007 Yu was named a National Book Foundation '5 under 35' honoree. He is of Taiwanese descent; his brother Kelvin Yu is also a writer and actor.
