## Biography

Charley Chase, born Charles Joseph Parrott, was an American actor, comedian, screenwriter and director. He began performing in vaudeville as a teenager and entered films in 1912, working initially at the Christie Film Company before moving to Keystone Studios, where he appeared in bit parts in Mack Sennett comedies, including those featuring Charlie Chaplin.

Chase is best known for his work in Hal Roach short film comedies, in which he starred, directed and wrote. He featured as Charley in the Laurel and Hardy film *Sons of the Desert* (1933), on which he also received a writing credit. He was the elder brother of comedian and director James Parrott and was married to Bebe Eltinge from 1914 until his death.
