## Biography

Charlie McDermott is an American actor, director, writer and musician. He was born Charles Joseph McDermott Jr. on 6 April 1990 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 16.

McDermott made his film debut in *The Village* (2004). His breakout role came in the crime drama *Frozen River* (2008), for which he received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. He gained further recognition as a series regular playing Axl Heck in the ABC sitcom *The Middle* (2009–2018).

Other credits include supporting roles in *Hot Tub Time Machine* (2010), *Instant Family* (2018) and *Countdown* (2019), and a recurring part as Ty in the Netflix miniseries *Unbelievable* (2019). He has been married to Sara Rejaie since 2017.
