## Biography

Charlotte Brown is an American television writer, producer and director. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she began her career as a writer on series including *The Mary Tyler Moore Show*, *The Partridge Family*, *Love, American Style* and *The Bob Newhart Show* (1972–1974).

She joined the staff of the *Mary Tyler Moore Show* spin-off *Rhoda* as a writer and rose to become its executive producer in 1977, making her the first woman showrunner of a primetime network series. Brown also directed episodes of *Rhoda* and one episode of *Cagney & Lacey* (1985).

Her other credits include producing and writing the 1977 television film *Bumpers*, and later work as a writer and executive producer on series such as *The Powers That Be* and *CBS Summer Playhouse*.
