## Biography

Charlotte Flemming (also credited as Charlotte Flemming-Anders) was a German costume designer for stage and screen. Born in Weimar, she studied fashion illustration, set and costume design at the Weimar Academy of Arts. She began working in theatre in the late 1930s and entered film in 1949 with the DEFA production *Quartett zu fünft*.

Over a career spanning 1949 to 1988 she designed costumes for more than 130 films and television productions, becoming one of the most prolific designers in German cinema. She is best known for her work on *Cabaret* (1972), for which she received a BAFTA nomination. Other notable credits include *Fedora* (1978), *The Serpent's Egg* (1977) and *From the Life of the Marionettes* (1980). In 1976 she was awarded the Filmband in Gold for her contributions to German film. She was married to cinematographer Günther Anders.
