We like him in an ensemble; the next test is finding roles that ask more of him than keeping an adventure moving. In *Outer Banks* (2020), Chase Stokes plays John B. Routledge as someone whose search cannot wait. That urgency helps a teenage treasure hunt through plotting which needs a fair amount of indulgence. He gives the group someone to follow without making the other actors feel like bystanders.
