Cherien Dabis is a Palestinian-American director, writer and actress. Born on 27 November 1976 in Omaha, Nebraska, she grew up in Ohio and spent summers in Jordan. She holds a B.A. from the University of Cincinnati and an M.F.A. in film from Columbia University School of the Arts.

Dabis began her career writing for the series *The L Word* (2006–2008). Her feature debut *Amreeka* (2009) premiered at Sundance and won the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes. Her second feature, *May in the Summer* (2013), opened Sundance. She has directed episodes of *Only Murders in the Building* (2021–2023), *Ozark* (2017), *Ramy* (2019) and other series. In 2022 she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
