## Biography

Chiang Hsiu-Chiung is a Taiwanese director, screenwriter and actress. Born in Taipei in 1969, she studied theatre and screenwriting at the Taipei National University of the Arts. She began her career in film as an actress, playing Middle Sister in Edward Yang's *A Brighter Summer Day* (1991), a role that earned her a Golden Horse Award nomination for best supporting actress.

She later worked as an assistant director and performance instructor on films by Yang and Hou Hsiao-hsien, including *A Confucian Confusion* (1994), *Flowers of Shanghai* (1998) and *Yi Yi* (2000). Her directing credits include the short *Hopscotch* (2007), the documentary *Let the Wind Carry Me* (2009) and the feature *The Furthest End Awaits* (2014).
