## Biography

Chris Atkins is a British documentary filmmaker, journalist and author. He directed the feature documentary *Taking Liberties* (2007), which examined the erosion of civil liberties under the Blair government, and followed it with *Starsuckers* (2009), a critique of celebrity culture and the media. His early career included producing low-budget fiction features such as *16 Years of Alcohol* (2003) with director Richard Jobson.

Atkins has made several television documentaries for Channel 4's *Dispatches* and BBC's *Panorama*, and directed the mockumentary *UKIP: The First 100 Days* (2015) and the feature *Who Killed the KLF?* (2021). He was educated at Bromsgrove School and received a BAFTA nomination for his work on *Taking Liberties*. In 2016 he was convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to five years in prison; he later published the bestselling book *A Bit of a Stretch* (2020) about his experiences.
