He does it honestly, and in *GLOW* he found a part that asked him to be foolish first and serious later. The Lowell part usually arrives a little late. The heroine already has a life and a man in it, and here is someone kinder, steadier and slightly less interesting, standing in the doorway hoping to be picked. He plays it without complaint or irony. The smile is real, the patience is real, and he never signals to us that he knows how the story goes. That is harder than it looks, and it is why the character holds even when the writers have no plan for him. Piz on *Veronica Mars* (2006–07) is the case in point. Rob Thomas brought him in for the third season as the boy who likes Veronica plainly, in a series whose audience had long since chosen Jason Dohring's Logan.
