## Biography

Chris Offutt is an American writer of short stories, novels, memoirs and television scripts. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, he attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop and has published collections including *Kentucky Straight* (1992) and *Out of the Woods* (1999), as well as memoirs such as *The Same River Twice* (1993) and *No Heroes* (2002).

He has written for the television series *Weeds* (2005), *True Blood* (2008) and *Treme* (2010), including the story and teleplay for the *Treme* episode 'Careless Love'. His television work received an Emmy nomination. Offutt has also received awards from the Whiting Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, Lannan Foundation and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
