## Biography

Christian Marquand (15 March 1927 – 22 November 2000) was a French actor, screenwriter and director. Born in Marseille, he was the brother of actor Serge Marquand and director Nadine Trintignant.

His first film appearance was an uncredited role as a footman in Jean Cocteau's *Beauty and the Beast* (1946). After small parts, he was featured in *Lucrèce Borgia* (1953) and as an Austrian soldier in Luchino Visconti's *Senso* (1954). In 1956 he played opposite Brigitte Bardot in Roger Vadim's *...And God Created Woman*.

Marquand appeared in international productions including *The Longest Day* (1962), *Lord Jim* (1965), *The Flight of the Phoenix* (1965) and *Apocalypse Now* (1979). He directed *Les Grands Chemins* (1963) and *Candy* (1968).
