## Biography

Christopher St. John is an American actor, film director, producer and screenwriter. He is best known for playing Ben Buford in the 1971 film *Shaft*. A member of the Actors Studio from the mid-1960s, he appeared in a small number of film and television productions between 1968 and 1988.

In 1972 he wrote, directed, produced and starred in *Top of the Heap*, which was entered in competition at the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival and nominated for the Golden Bear. He also had a minor role in the television series *Remington Steele*.

He is the father of actor Kristoff St. John.
