Chuck Connors was an American actor who had previously played professional basketball for the Boston Celtics and baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.

He appeared as Tom Moore in the 1977 television miniseries *Roots*. He is best known for his role as Lucas McCain in the ABC series *The Rifleman* (1958–1963). Other film and television credits include *Old Yeller* (1957), *The Big Country* (1958), *Soylent Green* (1973) and *Airplane II: The Sequel* (1982). He received an Emmy nomination for his performance in *Roots*.
