## Biography

Clare Greet (born Clara Greet) was an English stage and film actress. She began her career on stage in 1891 with the Ben Greet Company, performing Shakespearean roles, and later appeared in numerous West End productions between 1907 and 1938, including premieres of plays by George Bernard Shaw such as *The Doctor's Dilemma*, *Major Barbara* and *Androcles and the Lion*.

Greet worked in films from 1921 to 1939, often in small supporting roles. She appeared in seven films directed by Alfred Hitchcock: the unfinished *Number 13* (1922), *The Ring* (1927), *The Manxman* (1929), *Murder!* (1930), *The Man Who Knew Too Much* (1934), *Sabotage* (1936) as Mrs Jones (uncredited), and *Jamaica Inn* (1939) as Granny Tremarney. Other credits include *The Manxman* (1929) as Mrs Cregeen, *Murder!* (1930) as a jury member, and *Mrs. Dane's Defence* (1933) as Mrs Bulsom-Porter. She also worked as an uncredited producer on *Number 13*.
