## Biography

Clarence Ahart Brooks, also credited as Clarence A. Brooks, was an American actor. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he appeared in numerous films from the silent era through the 1950s, often in leading roles in independent race films.

In 1916, Brooks co-founded the Lincoln Motion Picture Company with Noble Johnson and others, one of the earliest Black-owned film production companies. He starred in several of its productions, including *By Right of Birth* (1921). His later credits include *Georgia Rose* (1930), *Arrowsmith* (1931), in which he played Dr. Oliver Marchand, and *Murder in Harlem* (1935). He was married to Cherry Hale.
