## Biography

Claude Berri (born Claude Berel Langmann) was a French film producer, director, screenwriter and actor. He founded Renn Productions and worked extensively as both a director and producer of mainstream and more challenging films.

As a producer, his credits include Roman Polanski's *Tess* (1979). He directed *Jean de Florette* and *Manon of the Spring* (both 1986), *Uranus* (1990) and *Germinal* (1993). Earlier, his short film *Le Poulet* won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 1965. He also produced or co-produced films by directors including Claude Sautet, Jean-Jacques Annaud and Dany Boon.
