## Biography

Claude Chagrin is a British director, producer, writer and actress. She trained in mime under Jacques Lecoq in Paris in the late 1950s, where she met mime artist Julian Chagrin; the couple married and later moved to London, where she taught mime.

She appeared as a mime in Michelangelo Antonioni’s *Blow-Up* (1966), alongside her husband. In the mid-1970s the couple made three short silent comedies. Chagrin directed *The Concert* (1974), *The Christmas Tree* (1975) and *The Morning Spider* (1976); she also produced and co-wrote the first and last of these. The films received Oscar nominations. She worked in theatre as a mime consultant and choreographer, including on productions of *Rosencrantz and Guildsterns Are Dead* and *Equus*, and received an Emmy nomination for choreography on the 1970 Hallmark Hall of Fame *Hamlet*.
