## Biography

Clive Hornby (20 October 1944 – 3 July 2008) was an English actor best known for playing Jack Sugden in the ITV soap opera *Emmerdale* (originally *Emmerdale Farm*) from 1980 until 2008.

He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Earlier in his career he was a drummer with the 1960s Merseybeat band The Dennisons and appeared in guest roles on television series including *Get Some In!* (1975), *Minder* (1979, as Norman Gibbons) and *Space: 1999*.

Hornby was married to actress Helen Weir, who played his on-screen wife Pat Sugden in *Emmerdale*, from 1984 until their divorce in 2000; they had one son. He died of cancer in Leeds.
