## Biography

Clyde Cook was an Australian-born actor, comedian and vaudevillian whose career spanned stage, silent films, sound pictures and television. Born in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, he began performing on stage in Australia in 1901 as an acrobat and dancer before moving to the United States around 1919, where he appeared in vaudeville and was spotted by film producer William Fox.

He made his mark in Hollywood comedy shorts in the 1920s, including work for Hal Roach, before transitioning to supporting character roles in features. He is credited as 'Sugar' Steve in *The Docks of New York* (1928) and appeared in films such as *He Who Gets Slapped* (1924), *The Sea Hawk* (1940), *Sergeant York* (1941) and *The Verdict* (1946).
