## Biography

Clyde De Vinna was an American cinematographer and director of photography. Born in Sedalia, Missouri, he graduated from the University of Arkansas and began working in the film industry in 1915 at Inceville studios, later becoming a first cameraman.

He contributed to more than 120 film and television projects through to 1953, often on demanding location shoots for MGM. His credits include *Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ* (1925), *Trader Horn* (1931), *Tarzan the Ape Man* (1932), *Tarzan and His Mate* (1934) and *Treasure Island* (1934). De Vinna won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for *White Shadows in the South Seas* (1928).
