## Biography

Coleen Gray (born Doris Bernice Jensen) was an American actress. Born in Staplehurst, Nebraska, she studied dramatics at Hamline University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She moved to California, worked briefly as a waitress, and enrolled in a drama school in Los Angeles before signing a contract with 20th Century-Fox following a screen test.

She appeared in uncredited roles in *State Fair* (1945) and *Three Little Girls in Blue* (1946). Gray gained notice for her performances in film noir, including *Kiss of Death* (1947) and *Nightmare Alley* (1947). She played Fen in Howard Hawks's *Red River* (1948) and later appeared as Fay in Stanley Kubrick's *The Killing* (1956). Her career included numerous films and guest roles in television series such as *Perry Mason*, *Bonanza* and *Alfred Hitchcock Presents*. She continued working into the 1980s.
