## Biography

Collier Young was an American screenwriter and film and television producer. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1930 and initially worked in advertising before entering the film industry. He served in the US Navy during the Second World War, making documentary films, and later held executive positions at Columbia and Warner Bros.

In 1949, with his then-wife Ida Lupino, Young co-founded the independent production company The Filmakers, which produced several low-budget features addressing social issues. He produced and co-wrote films including *Outrage* (1950), *The Hitch-Hiker* (1953) and *The Bigamist* (1953), on which he also received a screenplay credit. He later produced *Private Hell 36* (1954) and created the long-running television series *Ironside* (1967).

Young also produced the series *The Rogues* (1964–65), which won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series, and episodes of *One Step Beyond* and *The Wild Wild West*. He was married to the actresses Ida Lupino and Joan Fontaine.
