## Biography

Con Conrad (born Conrad K. Dober) was an American songwriter and composer. Born in Manhattan on 18 June 1891, he began his career playing piano in theatres and vaudeville before publishing his first song in 1912. He produced Broadway shows including The Honeymoon Express (1913) and wrote scores for productions such as Moonlight, Kitty's Kisses and Americana.

Conrad moved to Hollywood in 1929. He contributed music to films including The Gay Divorcee (1934), for which he and lyricist Herb Magidson received the first Academy Award for Best Original Song for 'The Continental'. Other film work includes songs for The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle (1939). He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Conrad died in Van Nuys, California, on 28 September 1938.
