## Biography

Conrad Salinger (30 August 1901 – 17 June 1962) was an American arranger, orchestrator and composer. He studied classical composition at the Paris Conservatoire and worked as an arranger on Broadway productions from 1931 to 1938. He moved to Hollywood in the late 1930s and joined MGM, where he became the studio’s principal orchestrator of musicals under long-term contracts from 1939.

Salinger provided orchestrations for more than seventy-five films. His MGM credits include *An American in Paris* (1951), *Singin’ in the Rain* (1952), *Seven Brides for Seven Brothers* (1954), *Meet Me in St. Louis* (1944), *On the Town* (1949) and *Gigi* (1958). He frequently collaborated with musical directors Johnny Green and Roger Edens on Arthur Freed productions.
