## Biography

Cotton Warburton, born Irvine Eugene Warburton, was an American film and television editor. After a career as a college football quarterback at the University of Southern California, where he was an All-American in 1933 and later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, he joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios as an assistant editor in 1934. He received his first editing credit on the Laurel and Hardy film *Air Raid Wardens* (1943) and remained at the studio for 19 years.

Warburton moved to the Walt Disney Studios in the mid-1950s. He edited numerous Disney features, including *The Absent-Minded Professor* (1961), *Mary Poppins* (1964), *The Love Bug* (1968), *Bedknobs and Broomsticks* (1971) and *Herbie Rides Again* (1974). He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for *Mary Poppins* and collaborated frequently with director Robert Stevenson.

His other credits include *That Darn Cat!* (1965), *Freaky Friday* (1976) and *The Cat from Outer Space* (1978). He died in 1982.
