Country Joe McDonald was an American singer, songwriter and musician who appeared as himself with his band Country Joe and the Fish in the concert film *Woodstock* (1970). He was also credited in *More American Graffiti* (1979) and performed in other films including *Zachariah* (1971) and *Gas-s-s-s* (1970).

Born Joseph Allen McDonald on 1 January 1942 in Washington, DC, he co-founded the psychedelic folk-rock group Country Joe and the Fish in the mid-1960s. The band featured at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and Woodstock in 1969. McDonald later worked as a solo artist, composer and occasional actor, with additional credits including the television series *Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City* (1993). He died on 7 March 2026 in Berkeley, California.
