## Biography

Crane Wilbur (also credited as Erwin Crane Wilbur) was an American actor, writer and director who worked across stage, radio and screen. Born in Athens, New York, he made his Broadway debut in 1903 and appeared in early films, gaining recognition as the male lead opposite Pearl White in the 1914 serial *The Perils of Pauline*.

Wilbur later focused on writing and directing, contributing screenplays to films including *He Walked by Night* (1949), *House of Wax* (1953), *Crime Wave* (1953), *The Phenix City Story* (1955), *The Bat* (1959, which he also directed) and *Mysterious Island* (1961). He was a nephew of actor Tyrone Power Sr. and cousin of Tyrone Power. Wilbur died in Toluca Lake, California.
