D.C. Fontana was an American television scriptwriter and story editor, best known for her work on the original *Star Trek* series (1966). She began her career in television after working as a secretary for Gene Roddenberry on *The Lieutenant*. She contributed to multiple episodes of *Star Trek*, including as story editor, and helped develop the backstory of the character Spock and Vulcan culture.

Fontana wrote for later *Star Trek* productions, including the pilot episode of *Star Trek: The Next Generation* (1987), which she co-wrote with Roddenberry, and episodes of *Star Trek: Deep Space Nine* (1993). Her other credits include *The Six Million Dollar Man* (1974), *Dallas* (1978), *Buck Rogers in the 25th Century* (1979) and *Babylon 5* (1994). She received Writers Guild of America awards and was inducted into halls of fame for screenwriters.
