D. Watkins, also credited as Dwight Watkins, is an American writer and author from Baltimore, Maryland. He wrote an episode of the HBO miniseries *We Own This City* (2022) and hosted its official companion podcast.

Watkins is a New York Times bestselling author whose books include *The Beast Side* (2015), *The Cook Up* (2016), *Where Tomorrows Aren't Promised* (2020, co-written with Carmelo Anthony) and *Black Boy Smile* (2022). He is an assistant professor at the University of Baltimore, where he earned an MFA in creative writing, and holds a Master of Education from Johns Hopkins University. His journalism has appeared in the New York Times, Salon (where he is editor-at-large), Esquire and other outlets.
