## Biography

Dallas Bower (25 July 1907 – 18 October 1999) was a British writer, producer and director who worked across film, early television and radio. Born in London, he began his career as a sound recordist in 1927 before moving into editing, assistant directing and production roles on features including Escape Me Never (1935) and As You Like It (1936).

He produced pioneering BBC television drama in the late 1930s, including Shakespeare productions. During the Second World War he served as executive producer in the Ministry of Information's Films Division and initiated the project that became Laurence Olivier's Henry V (1944), for which he wrote the original adaptation and served as associate producer. Post-war he directed Alice in Wonderland (1949), combining puppet and live-action techniques, and The Second Mrs Tanqueray (1952).
