Born on 4 September 1960 in New York City, he is a member of the Wayans family of entertainers. He began performing stand-up comedy in the early 1980s and appeared in films including *Beverly Hills Cop* (1984), *Roxanne* (1987) and *Earth Girls Are Easy* (1988) as Zeebo. He had a brief stint on *Saturday Night Live* before joining the cast of the sketch comedy series *In Living Color* (1990–1992), which he also wrote for. Wayans starred in films such as *The Last Boy Scout* (1991), *Major Payne* (1995), which he co-wrote, and *Bulletproof* (1996).
