## Biography

Dan Mindel is a South African-American cinematographer. Born Ivor Daniel Mindel on 27 May 1958 in Johannesburg, he is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, the British Society of Cinematographers and the South African Society of Cinematographers.

He began his career as a camera loader and assistant cameraman before becoming director of photography on Tony Scott's *Enemy of the State* (1998). Mindel has frequently collaborated with Scott and with J. J. Abrams on films including *Mission: Impossible III* (2006), *Star Trek* (2009), *Star Trek Into Darkness* (2013), *Star Wars: The Force Awakens* (2015) and *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker* (2019).

His other credits as director of photography include *The Amazing Spider-Man 2* (2014), *John Carter* (2012) and *Twisters* (2024). He served as cinematographer on *Red One* (2024).
