## Biography

Daniel Mainwaring was an American novelist and screenwriter. He also published under the pen name Geoffrey Homes. He began his professional career as a journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle and wrote a series of mystery novels before moving into film publicity work.

Mainwaring adapted his own novel *Build My Gallows High* (1946) as the screenplay for *Out of the Past* (1947). He subsequently wrote screenplays under both names, including credits on *The Big Steal* (1949), *The Tall Target* (1951), *The Hitch-Hiker* (1953), *The Phenix City Story* (1955) and *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* (1956). He died in Los Angeles in 1977.
