Darnell Martin is an American film and television director, screenwriter and producer. She was born on 7 January 1964 in the Bronx, New York City.

Martin studied at Sarah Lawrence College and New York University. Her debut feature *I Like It Like That* (1994) was the first film directed by an African-American woman for a major Hollywood studio. She has directed episodes of numerous television series, including *Homicide: Life on the Street* (1996), *Oz* (1997), *ER* (1994), *Law & Order* (1990) and *Grey's Anatomy* (2005), as well as later series such as *The Walking Dead* and *Chicago Fire*.
