## Biography

Dave Martin was an English television and film writer. Born David Ralph Martin on 1 January 1935 in Handsworth, Birmingham, he attended Handsworth Grammar School and later read English at Bristol University. He worked in advertising and as a stagehand at the Bristol Old Vic before beginning his writing career.

Martin is best known for his long collaboration with Bob Baker, with whom he wrote eight serials for *Doctor Who* between 1971 and 1979, contributing 34 episodes across the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker eras. Their work included *The Claws of Axos* (1971), *The Three Doctors* (1972–73) and *The Invisible Enemy* (1977), in which they created the characters Omega and K-9. The pair were nicknamed the "Bristol Boys" by the production team. They also wrote episodes of *Z-Cars* and other series such as *Sky* and *Into the Labyrinth*.

Martin died of lung cancer on 30 March 2007 in Bridport, Dorset.
